Armo flyer at Hudco in Dobbs Ferry

I’m so ready to be outside again

After the cold stretch last week that came back fierce yesterday, I’m looking outside having the same thought I have every year around this time: I cannot do one more weekend of acting like I’m perfectly happy being indoors.

The second there’s even a hint of spring, I want out.

I want air. I want music. And I know I’m not the only one.

So this feels like a good time to mention a fun event we’re excited to support.

On April 10, we’re a local sponsor of Armo, presented by HudCo in Dobbs Ferry, and it sounds like exactly the kind of night that fits the moment. The kind where you go because it sounds interesting and come home really glad you did.

Armo plays energetic, deeply rhythmic Afrobeat rooted in both classic and contemporary sounds. The group was founded by longtime Antibalas bandmates and draws inspiration from artists including Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Ebo Taylor, William Onyeabor, and more, with musicians from the Daptone family and New York’s Afrobeat scene in the mix.

So no … not background music.

And I love that Afrobeat carries more than sound. From the beginning, it has been tied to resistance, expression, and the power of art to move people. Sometimes emotionally. Sometimes politically. Sometimes literally onto a dance floor.

And if you want to check it out or grab tickets, here’s the link: HudCo Presents Armo

It’s an affordable event to begin with, but we’ll be raffling off a pair of tickets next week. If you’d like to enter, send us an email with the subject line: Armo Ticket Raffle.

We’re proud to support events like this because a community needs more than businesses. It needs reasons to get out of the house, be around other people, hear something great, and feel a little more alive. And this sounds like one of those nights.

Cheerfully,

Robin Murphy
