10 Mar 2026 A different kind of cleaning yesterday
Yesterday we cleaned a home that most people hope they never have to live in.
It was the family shelter for Hope’s Door in Westchester, a nonprofit working to end domestic abuse and support survivors.
And it made me think about how easy it is for some of us to take “home” for granted.
Because a home isn’t just where you live. It’s supposed to support you, inside and out. It’s supposed to feel safe, peaceful, and comfortable.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case in all homes.
Hope’s Door helps people get to that kind of home.
They provide a safe place to stay when someone needs to leave quickly, along with counseling, advocacy, and help navigating the legal system. They also do community outreach and education, because prevention and awareness matter, and because people deserve to know what support can look like before a situation gets worse.
A couple of months ago, Hope’s Door came to our office and spoke with our staff as part of that outreach. It was a special evening because it left us with more awareness, more understanding, and a stronger sense of what “safe” really means.
So now, every week, our team shows up in the way we know how.
We clean the kitchen, scrub the bathrooms, vacuum the corners and couches, and get rid of the dust, with care and intention, just like we do in every home we clean.
Hope’s Door serves families throughout Westchester County, helping people rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
We can’t do the work Hope’s Door does. But we can support it. And we can help make the in-between feel like a gentler landing place while someone is rebuilding and finding their next home.
Warmly,
