09 Mar 2026 Supporting Hope’s Door: A Domestic Violence Shelter in Westchester
We started cleaning the family shelter for Hope’s Door in Westchester, a nonprofit working to end domestic abuse and support survivors, and I can’t help thinking how lucky some of us are to take “home” for granted.
Hope’s Door operates a domestic violence shelter and support services for families across Westchester County.
Because a home isn’t just where you live. It’s supposed to support you, inside and out. It’s supposed to feel safe, peaceful, and comfortable.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case in all homes.
Hope’s Door helps people get to that kind of home.
What Hope’s Door Does for Families in Westchester
They provide a safe place to stay when someone needs to leave quickly, plus counseling, advocacy, and help navigating the legal system. They also do community outreach and education, because prevention and awareness matter, and because people deserve to know what support can look like before a situation gets worse.
A couple of months ago, Hope’s Door came to our office and met with our staff as part of that outreach. It was a special evening because it left us with more awareness, more understanding, and a stronger sense of what “safe” really means.
How Our Team Supports Hope’s Door
So now, every week, our team shows up in the way we know how. We clean the kitchen, scrub the bathrooms, vacuum the corners and couches, and get rid of the dust, with care and intention, like we do in every home we clean.
Hope’s Door serves families throughout Westchester County, helping people rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
We can’t do the work Hope’s Door does. But we can support it. And we can help make the in-between feel like a gentler landing place while someone is rebuilding and finding their next home.
