Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love – or brown M&M’s

In the 1980s, Van Halen was famous for their over-the-top concerts — fireballs, flying guitars, and walls of amps that could shake an arena.

But hidden deep in their tour contract was one strange line:

“There will be no brown M&M’s backstage.”

It sounded like pure rock-star ego. But it wasn’t about candy — it was about attention to detail.

Their shows involved pages of complex requirements — stage weights, power loads, lighting specs. If the band arrived and saw brown M&M’s in the bowl, they knew the promoter hadn’t read the contract carefully.

And sure enough, when they checked, they often found serious safety issues, like a stage that couldn’t hold the lighting rig.

That little bowl of candy told them if the big stuff was being done right.

At Maid Brigade, we have our own version of the brown M&M test for our team members: everyone arrives at the office in their full uniform.

It might seem small, but it speaks volumes.

It says we take pride in what we do. We’re part of a team. And we care enough to show up prepared, professional, and ready to earn your trust — every single visit.

After all, when the little details are right, everything else just shines.

Cheerfully,

Robin Murphy
