First, How to Prepare Eggshells
Eggshells deserve a promotion in your household. With a little bit of prep to ensure they are clean and sanitized, you can put them to these following and other clever uses.
If you’ve hardboiled your eggs at the proper temperature, then you should be good to go with using those eggshells, although you might want to give them a rinse anyway to remove any inner membranes. But if you’re starting with raw eggs, you’ll want to sanitize those shells before proceeding.
- Rinse them to remove any remaining yolks and membranes.
- Microwave or bake the eggshells in the oven to sanitize them. Put them on a microwave-safe plate and heat them on high for 3-4 minutes. Or put them on a baking sheet and bake them at 400ºF for about 10 minutes.
Not only does baking or microwaving sanitize the eggs, but it dries them out and makes it much easier to grind them down to a fine consistency.
